Description

Sweaty hands cost you reps. A chalk ball keeps them dry with a squeeze, and puts down a thin, even coat instead of the cloud you get from a loose block. It is the easiest way to bring chalk to a home gym or a gym that frowns on the mess.

The ball is magnesium chalk packed inside a fine cloth sock. Squeeze it between your palms and the chalk works through the fabric onto your hands, so there is no scooping, no spilled powder and much less dust on the floor. It fits in a pocket or a gym bag and goes everywhere your bar does.

Chalk up before deadlifts, rows, pull-ups and anything on a thick bar, and again between heavy sets. Keep it in a zip bag or a small pouch when you travel. One ball lasts a long time for most lifters; heavy users grab the 2-pack. A quick note on gym etiquette: even low-mess chalk leaves marks, so check your gym allows it before you bring it in, and wipe the bar down when you are finished. If your gym bans loose chalk entirely, a ball like this is usually the version they will accept, because the cloth keeps the dust down to almost nothing.

Lifter squeezing a gym chalk ball before a barbell set

Sweat Costs You Reps

When your palms get slick, the bar starts to roll and your grip quits early. A quick squeeze of chalk keeps your hands dry so the set ends when your muscles do.

Use it before every heavy pull and between hard sets.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use it?

Squeeze the ball between your palms and rub your hands together. A thin coat of chalk comes through the cloth.

Is it messy?

Much less than a loose block or bucket. Store it in a zip bag or pouch to keep your gym bag clean.

What is the chalk made of?

Magnesium carbonate, the same thing loose lifting chalk is made of. The difference is the mesh ball holds it, so you get the grip without coating the bench, the bar and everyone training next to you.

How long does one ball last?

It depends on how often you chalk up, but one ball lasts most lifters a long time. Heavy users can grab the 2-pack.

Can I use it for pull-ups and climbing?

Yes. It works for any grip work: deadlifts, pull-ups, rows, rings and climbing.
